Preduzeće je osnovano 22.02.1961. godine sa osnovnom delatnošću održavanje, rekonstrukcija i izgradnja javnih puteva, mostova, propusta i drugih objekata u funkciji korišćenja javnih puteva. Krajem 1974.godine, udruživanjem sa Preduzećem za puteve “Beograd”, postaje Osnovna organizacija za održavanje i rekonstrukciju puteva u sastavu istog. Godine 1985. OOUR “Valjevo” sa OOUR “Putogradnja” iz Valjeva formiralo je OOUR za puteve “Valjevo” u okviru Preduzeća za puteve “Beograd”.

Početkom 1990. godine osamostalilo se i od tada posluje pod nazivom Preduzeće za puteve “Valjevo” sa p.o. Valjevo, sve do 16.06.2005. godine kada je privatizovano na aukcijskoj prodaji, od kada posluje kao Preduzeće za puteve “Valjevo”a.d. Valjevo. Od 05.08.2005. godine posluje kao akcionarsko društvo.
